The power of a syndicate

Having won again on Euro Millions last night, I got to thinking about how much more you win lotto prizes when you play as part of a syndicate. Sure, you have to share the prizes, but since you play so many more games for the same money, you win many more times... and I'd rather have some of something than all of nothing.

Since I started in the e-Lottery syndicates playing the UK National Lotto twice a week and EuroMillions every Friday, I've won 20 times as of today. That's a win rate of 2.1 times a month, or one win every 2 weeks. Playing lotto by myself in the past, I was lucky to win once in that period of time.

Camelot, the company that runs the UK National Lottery and EuroMillions in the UK state that 1 in 4 prizes is won by syndicates. e-Lottery syndicates are the largest group of syndicates, so chances are, a large proportion of these winning syndicates are in fact, e-Lottery syndicates. Just being a member of one of these syndicates brings you closer to lotto success.

The recent story of the UK maths faculty sharing over £8 Million proves the point. They worked out that you have to cover all the numbers to eventually win. And they did. It's the same as with e-Lottery syndicates. All the numbers are covered on each entry, so we're guaranteed to at least have 1 winning number. That improves the odds significantly.

The key to winning seems to be consistency and persistence. Play the same combination of numbers every single week and over time you will win many smaller prizes and the occaisional large prize, maybe even the jackpot!

Of course no one can ever predict which balls will fall, but as long as you have 1 of each, you're in with a good chance.
