Sometimes I'm asked whether or not it's legal for Australians to play in a foreign lottery. There is much confusion around this issue since the Interactive Gambling Act 2001 came into effect.
The answer is definitively yes. It is legal for Australians to play overseas lotto. It is not illegal.
Generally, it is an offence to provide gaming to people physically present in Australia. This generally applies to online casino type gaming, keno style games and instant win games. Normal licensed Lotteries are specifically exempted in the legislation, so it is actually legal for Australians to participate in overseas lotteries.
To see for yourself, view the Act online here. Note Section 8D.
VWD e-Lottery Syndicates are the easiest way for Australians to play the UK Lotto and EuroMillions. Two of the world's biggest tax-free lotteries. Not only Australians, but British expats and other European migrants in Australia can still play the lotto from back home.
